ECAC DIVISION III MEN'S LACROSSE TOURNAMENT - Wheaton falls to Keene State in first championship game appearanceMay 14, 2006 KEENE, NH--- In its first trip to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament championship game, the second-seeded Wheaton College men's lacrosse team fell at number-one Keene State College, 19-10 on Sunday at the Owl Athletic Complex. The Lyons finished the season 9-7-1, while the hosts improved to 13-3 and corralled their first ECAC Tournament title. The Owls netted the game's first two goals during a 62-second span early in the opening quarter, but the teams traded the next five goals as Wheaton pulled within one on three occasions, the last when senior Taylor Jackson (Middlesex, VT/Union 32) found the back of the net 53 seconds into the second period. The hosts scored the next five goals to begin pulling away and led, 9-3 at 11:39 of the third. Keene State took advantage of a big scoring run during the third quarter that turned a five-goal edge into a 10-goal lead. The Owls netted five markers in a 3:22 stretch, with the final trio coming in just 13 seconds. Wheaton seniors Ellis Reavey (Longmeadow, MA/Longmeadow) and Adam Cohen (Montpelier, VT/Montpelier) each scored during a 46-second span toward the end of the period, but the hosts held a 15-6 lead entering the fourth thanks to a 9-3 scoring edge during the third quarter. A trio of seniors tallied multiple goals in their final college appearances for the Blue and White, as Cohen led the way with a hat trick. Jackson and John Sharry (Westwood, MA/Westwood) each scored a pair of markers, with Sharry adding an assist, while sophomore goalie Jeremy Beech (West Newbury, MA/Governor Dummer Academy) made 10 stops. Junior Sean Panora (South Windsor, CT/South Windsor), the tournament's most outstanding player, led Keene State's six multiple-point scorers with six goals and seven points. Sophomore Peter Lauranzano (Beverly, MA/Beverly) added five assists and seven points, while junior Greg Gonzales (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) tacked on four tallies. In net, sophomore Matt Johnson (Derry, NH/Pinkertown) made 12 saves during nearly 55 minutes of action to capture the victory.
