ECAC DIVISION III MEN'S LACROSSE TOURNAMENT - Wheaton advances to first championship with 19-9 win over UMass-BostonMay 10, 2006 NORTON, MA--- Junior attackman Trey Helms (Cockeysville, MD/Saint Paul's School) tallied career highs of five assists and seven points to lead the second-seeded Wheaton College men's lacrosse team past number three University of Massachusetts at Boston, 19-9 in Wednesday's Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament semifinal at Mirrione Stadium. The Lyons advance to the championship game for the first time in program history, where they will play the winner of top seed Keene State College and number four Lasell College on Saturday at the highest remaining seed at 1:00 p.m. Improving to 9-6-1 on the season, Wheaton's nine victories rank as the third most in the school's annals. The Beacons, who are out of the Little East Conference (LEC), finished their season at 9-6. The hosts never trailed throughout the game's entirety, rattling off the contest's first three goals over a 2:52 span in the opening quarter. UMass-Boston made it a 3-1 game with 4:45 to play in the first before senior Taylor Jackson (Middlesex, VT/Union 32) tallied his second goal of the contest at 1:36 and classmate Ellis Reavey (Longmeadow, MA/Longmeadow) added Wheaton's fifth tally with 25 ticks on the clock. The Blue and White scored three of the second quarter's first four goals en route to a comfortable 8-2 advantage with 10:28 to go in the first half. Helms had a hand in three of Wheaton's opening six tallies with a goal and two assists, while Reavey posted his second goal of the stanza to help give the Lyons a 9-4 advantage at the half. Freshman Robert Cusack (Braintree, MA/Braintree) paced the Beacons with a goal and an assist. UMass-Boston began the second half with a goal from junior Christopher Hanafin (Burlington, MA/Burlington), but Wheaton tallied the next five to pull away for good, including a pair of tallies from junior Andrew Rohan (South Hadley, MA/Avon Old Farms). During that stretch, junior Chris Hade (Franklin Lakes, NJ/Dwight-Englewood School) went the length of the field and launched a shot past the Beacon keeper for his first goal of the season. The Lyons led 14-7 after three quarters of play and outscored UMass-Boston, 5-2 in the fourth. Reavey totaled four goals and two assists for Wheaton, while Jackson and Rohan each recorded hat tricks. Senior Adam Cohen (Montpelier, VT/Montpelier) contributed two goals and a trio of helpers. Hanafin, junior Robert Thayer (West Tisbury, MA/Martha's Vineyard Regional) and sophomore Andrew Morrison (Marshfield, MA/Marshfield) led the Beacons with two goals each. Sophomore Jeremy Beech (West Newbury, MA/Governor Dummer Academy) picked up the win in net with seven stops, while junior Nick Eaton (Rowley, MA/Ipswich) finished with 20 saves for UMass-Boston.
