Lyons secure first Pilgrim League Tournament berth since 1998 following convincing 23-2 victory at NorwichApril 22, 2006 NORTHFIELD, VT- The Wheaton College men's lacrosse team secured its first Pilgrim League Tournament berth since the 1998 season thanks to its convincing 23-2 victory at Norwich University Saturday, as the Lyons held a commanding 17-1 halftime advantage. Wheaton's 23-goal total is tied for sixth best in program history and is its highest offensive output since scoring 24 goals against Norwich last spring. Earning its most Pilgrim wins since the 1997 campaign, Wheaton raised its league mark to 5-2 and overall record to 7-5-1. The Cadets fell to 1-10 and 0-6. Senior Taylor Jackson (Middlesex, VT/Union 32) made a return to his hometown state a memorable one by leading all scorers with five goals and one assist. Classmates Adam Cohen (Montpelier, VT/Montpelier) and Ellis Reavey (Longmeadow, MA/Longmeadow) each recorded four tallies and two assists, while sophomore Josh Daub (Coral Springs, FL/Saint Andrew's School) scored the first four goals of his collegiate career. Junior Markus Ricci (Wayland, MA/Wayland) turned in a solid all-around performance with four helpers and three tallies, while classmate Trey Helms (Cockeysville, MD/Saint Paul's School) added three assists and two goals. Wheaton set the tone early by scoring the game's first goal seven seconds into the contest, and the Lyons logged nine first-period goals, including three from Jackson. Freshman Taylor Hacking (Saint Johnsbury, VT/Saint Johnsbury Academy) scored Norwich's lone goal of the opening half with 28 seconds to play in the first quarter, but Wheaton exploded for eight second-period tallies to put the game out of reach. Reavey and Cohen teamed up to score the third period's lone goal, and following a Cadet tally in the fourth, the Lyons scored the final five goals. Wheaton outshot Norwich by an aggregate 52-12 margin, as sophomore Jeremy Beech (West Newbury, MA/Governor Dummer Academy) posted one save in the first quarter. Junior Tristan Colglazier (Lutherville, MD/Saint Paul's School) played the final three periods and finished with two stops. Freshman Joe Phelan (Madison, CT/Daniel Hand) had 15 saves for Norwich. The Lyons look to clinch the Pilgrim's third seed in their league finale against Clark on Wednesday.
