Lyons keep playoff hopes alive with 11-10 victory at Lasell

April 15, 2006

NEWTON, MA- Sophomore Richie Rasamny (Redding, CT/Joel Barlow) scored the game-winning goal with eight seconds remaining in regulation, and the Wheaton College men's lacrosse team won for the third time in four Pilgrim League contests with an 11-10 victory at Lasell College on Saturday.

The Blue and White, which is 5-5-1 overall and 3-2 in the league, is in a fourth-place tie in a conference which accepts the top four teams for the postseason. Lasell is now 8-3 and 2-2.

The Lyons controlled play early, jumping out to a 3-1 lead after one quarter on goals by seniors Adam Cohen (Montpelier, VT/Montpelier), Taylor Jackson (Middlesex, VT/Union 32) and Ellis Reavey (Longmeadow, MA/Longmeadow). Jackson's second marker with 30 seconds remaining in the opening half gave the visitors a 6-3 lead at intermission, and junior Markus Ricci (Wayland, MA/Wayland) put Wheaton up by a 7-3 count just five minutes into the second half.

From there, the Lasers netted five of the game's next six goals to knot the score at eight with 7:04 to go in regulation. Five different Lasell players scored during that time, with senior Kyle Minaker (Newton, MA) contributing a goal and an assist.

Cohen put Wheaton back on top 43 seconds later, but Minaker notched the equalizer with 5:38 remaining, and sophomore David Bulhoes (Billerica, MA) scored off senior Louis Lucchetti's (Newton, MA) helper at 4:24 to give the Lasers a 10-9 lead, their first of the contest. However, Cohen completed his hat trick 47 seconds later, and Rasamny netted the late game-winner for the Lyons.

Cohen and Jackson each recorded three-goal games for Wheaton, while Rasamny and Reavey each scored twice. Ricci added a goal and an assist, while junior Andrew Rohan (South Hadley, MA/Avon Old Farms) contributed a pair of helpers. In net, sophomore Jeremy Beech (West Newbury, MA/Governor Dummer Academy) picked up 11 saves.

Bulhoes, Minaker and freshman Michael Maggio (Winchester, MA) each scored twice for the Lasers, while freshman Scott Keeley (Weymouth, MA) assisted on a pair of markers. Sophomore Mark DeMieri (Seaford, NY) stopped 12 shots.

Wheaton plays two of its final three regular season games at home, as the Lyons host Babson College in a Pilgrim contest Wednesday in Mirrione Stadium at 4:00 p.m.
