Wheaton moves to .500 in Pilgrim by topping Massachusetts Maritime, 10-7April 12, 2006 BUZZARDS BAY, MA- Five players tallied as Wheaton College scored the final seven goals of the first half en route to a 10-7 Pilgrim League men's lacrosse victory at Massachusetts Maritime Academy on Wednesday at Ellis Field. The Lyons improved to 4-5-1 overall and 2-2 in the conference, while the Buccaneers are 4-4 and 1-3 after losing their third straight contest. Just 3:01 into the contest, sophomore Matt Sullivan (Marshfield, MA) gave Massachusetts Maritime a 1-0 lead that stood until Wheaton sophomore Richie Rasamny (Redding, CT/Joel Barlow) knotted the game with 2:06 remaining in the first quarter and opened a seven-goal run. The Lyons outscored the Buccaneers, 6-0 in the second period to take a comfortable 7-1 lead at the half. Rasamny assisted senior Adam Cohen's (Montpelier, VT/Montpelier) go-ahead tally at 12:33, while Rasamny scored again and junior Andrew Rohan (South Hadley, MA/Avon Old Farms) notched a pair of markers during the stanza. Massachusetts Maritime crept back into the game with a 3-0 third quarter, as the hosts tallied all three of their goals during a 2:55 span, culminated when sophomore J.P. Gabriel (Hingham, MA) scored at 11:13, to make it 7-4. However, the teams traded goals on three occasions during the final period, and the Lyons never led by fewer than three the rest of the contest. Rohan led Wheaton with a hat trick, while Cohen and Rasamny each finished with two goals and an assist. Junior Larry Nussbaum (Glastonbury, CT/Avon Old Farms) contributed a pair of assists, while sophomore Jeremy Beech (West Newbury, CT/Governor Dummer Academy) made nine saves. Sophomore Bryan Sears (Scituate, MA) collected two goals and an assist for the Buccaneers, while Sullivan scored twice. Freshman Dan Nelson (Winchester, MA) made 11 saves in net. The Lyons return to action Saturday at conference counterpart Lasell College with a 1:00 p.m. contest.
