Reavey and Rohan net hat tricks during Wheaton's first Pilgrim victoryApril 5, 2006 NORTON, MA- Junior Andrew Rohan (South Hadley, MA/Avon Old Farms) recorded four goals and two assists and senior Ellis Reavey (Longmeadow, MA/Longmeadow) added a hat trick as Wheaton College defeated Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), 12-4 in Pilgrim League men's lacrosse action Wednesday at Mirrione Stadium. The Lyons are 3-4-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play, while the Engineers fell to 3-2 and 1-1. Wheaton held a 3-2 lead after one quarter and outscored MIT, 2-0 in the second to begin pulling away. In the first period, the teams traded two goals each before Blue and White junior Trey Helms (Cockeysville, MD/Saint Paul's School) put the Lyons up for good off an assist from classmate Larry Nussbaum (Glastonbury, CT/Avon Old Farms) with 18.3 seconds remaining. Senior Adam Cohen (Montpelier, VT/Montpelier) and junior Markus Ricci (Wayland, MA/Wayland) each scored in the second stanza to give Wheaton a 5-2 halftime lead. In the second half, the Lyons extended their advantage by scoring seven of the game's final nine goals. Senior Brennan Sherry (Wayland, MA/Wayland) brought the Engineers within two at 10:59 of the third, but Reavey scored 45 seconds later and completed his three-goal outing with 25.3 seconds left in the third to give Wheaton an 8-3 edge. MIT once again scored first in the fourth when junior Jonathan Stolmeier (San Antonio, TX/Saint Mary's Hall) tallied, but the Lyons notched the final four goals. Rohan played a hand in three of the fourth-quarter goals, beginning with his third marker at 5:57, and senior Taylor Jackson (Middlesex, VT/Union 32) scored twice. Jackson finished with two goals and an assist, while Cohen and Ricci each tallied a goal and an assist as the Lyons held a 39-14 advantage in shots. Sophomore Jeremy Beech (West Newbury, MA/Governor Dummer Academy) finished with five saves in three quarters before giving way to junior Tristan Colglazier (Lutherville, MD/Saint Paul's School), who made two saves during the final period. Stolmeier led the Engineers with a goal and two assists, while junior Zach Brewer (Durham, NC/Riverside) made 10 stops. The Lyons return to action on Saturday in a 3:00 p.m. contest at Springfield College, which is receiving votes in this week's STX/United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) poll.
