Wheaton's fourth-quarter rally propels Lyons past Plymouth in overtimeMarch 28, 2006 NORTON, MA- The Wheaton College men's lacrosse team outscored Plymouth State University, 4-1 in the fourth quarter to force overtime and senior Taylor Jackson (Middlesex, VT/Union 32) tallied the game-winning goal 1:17 into the extra session to give the Lyons a thrilling 10-9 victory Tuesday afternoon at Mirrione Stadium. Playing in its third overtime game of the season, Wheaton remained unbeaten at 2-0-1 while improving its overall record to 2-4-1. The Panthers, who have now suffered three losses by two goals or less, fall to 1-4 on the year. For Wheaton, a four-goal run erased a three-goal deficit in the fourth before Plymouth State senior Matt Fontenault (North Kingstown, RI/North Kingstown) scored with 15.4 seconds left to send the game into the extra session, where Jackson scored his second goal of the contest. The Lyons entered the fourth quarter trailing, 8-5. Junior Andrew Rohan (South Hadley, MA/Avon Old Farms) began the fourth-quarter scoring off an assist from senior Adam Cohen (Montpelier, VT/Montpelier) on a fast break. Sophomore Richie Rasamny (Redding, CT/Joel Barlow) made the score 8-7 before Wheaton knotted the score on a goal from junior Markus Ricci (Wayland, MA/Wayland) off a loose-ball scrum at 3:56 of the fourth. Jackson scored his first of the game with 2:47 remaining in the fourth as Wheaton took a one-goal lead before the visitors found the equalizer. The Lyons trailed for most of the contest, including being down 5-4 at the half. Senior Ellis Reavey (Longmeadow, MA/Longmeadow) scored his second goal of the contest with 6:55 left in the third to tie the game. Plymouth then went on a three-goal run, rattling off its three scores over a 1:06 span to make the game 8-5 in favor of the Panthers. The first quarter ended knotted at two, with the Lyons receiving goals from junior Larry Nussbaum (Glastonbury, CT/Avon Old Farms) and Cohen, whose goal was assisted by Nussbaum. For the Panthers, their first tally of the game came from senior Jon Gagnon (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford), who became the seventh player in Plymouth State history to score 100 career goals. Five different Lyons led the team with two points, with Jackson, Reavey and Rasamny all scoring two goals and Cohen and Nussbaum finishing with a goal and assist. For the Panthers, sophomore Adam Krinsky (Concord, NH/Concord) led the team with two goals and three assists, while Gagnon added a hat trick. Sophomore goalie Jeremy Beech (West Newbury, MA/Governor Dummer Academy) made 11 saves in the win, while junior Steve Valeri (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford) made 16 saves for the Panthers.
