May 9, 2005

BABSON PARK, MA- The Wheaton College men's lacrosse team had two player representatives garner Pilgrim League All-Conference team honors at Monday morning's postseason coaches meeting held at Babson College.

Wheaton senior defender Josh Fredrickson (Weymouth, MA/Weymouth) earned All-Pilgrim first-team honors, while junior midfielder Taylor Jackson (Middlesex, VT/Union 32) was selected to the second team. Both Fredrickson and Jackson served as two of Wheaton's captains this season.

Fredrickson spearheaded the Lyon defense, leading Wheaton to the Pilgrim's fifth-best scoring defense with an 8.69 goals against average. The teams ranked second through fifth in the league's scoring defenses were separated by 0.44 goals per contest. Fredrickson started in all 13 of Wheaton's games including eight Pilgrim contests. He finished the season with 26 ground balls. Fredrickson helped the Lyons hold eight opponents to single-digit scoring totals.

Jackson paced Wheaton in overall scoring, was second in assists and tied for second in goals. A leader on the offensive side of the ball, he tallied 17 goals and 10 assists in 13 starts this season. Jackson also amassed 35 ground balls and had a .508 face-off percentage in 65 attempts.

Within the Pilgrim, Jackson accounted for 12 goals, nine assists and 22 ground balls in eight games. He also won 27 of the 45 face-off attempts taken. Helping lead the Blue and White to the league's fourth-highest scoring average, Jackson's top performance came against Norwich University, where he posted four goals, two assists and eight ground balls.

Wheaton wrapped up the season on a strong note with a pair of Pilgrim League wins, as the Lyons recorded an overall mark of 6-7 with a 3-5 standing in league play. Wheaton finished the year in a three-way tie for fifth place in the Pilgrim with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Massachusetts Maritime Academy.
