January 17, 2008

NORTON, MA- Wheaton College women's indoor track and field standout Renee Thompson (Hartford, CT/Weaver) was honored as an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Track Co-Athlete of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, January 13. The award marks the first of Thompson's career.

Thompson shared this week's award with Cabrini College senior Lauren Deas. Only a sophomore and already an All-American, Thompson had a national championship provisional qualifying time of 58.47 in the 400-meter dash Sunday, leading Wheaton to a sixth-place mark among 26 scoring teams at the 39th annual Dartmouth Relays in Hanover, New Hampshire.

Thompson was the 400M event's top Division III runner while placing fourth overall. She also ran a leg on the runner-up 4x400-meter relay team.

Wheaton, which opened its indoor season last weekend, heads to the University of Rhode Island on Saturday for the Sorlien Invitational beginning at 12:00 p.m.
