Freshmen turn in strong performances at USATF New England meetFebruary 19, 2006 CAMBRIDGE, MA- A trio of freshmen recorded strong showings at the USATF New England Championship at Harvard University's Gordon Indoor Track and Tennis Center on Sunday. A day after competing at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, first-year athlete Chizoba Ezeigwe (Brockton, MA/Thayer Academy) recorded the third-best 400-meter dash time in Division III this winter. Ezeigwe finished second in the 400-meter dash in a time of 57.36, besting eight Division I athletes, while provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Division III Championship. In the 60-meter dash, Ezeigwe placed third in 8.01, just 0.05 seconds shy of the winner. Freshman Jonathan Cunha (Lexington, MA/Lexington) turned in a second-place performance in the 400-meter dash in 49.59 while finishing third in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.35, just 0.01 ticks out of second. Classmate Michael Wright (Baldwin, NY/Uniondale) came in fourth during the 200-meter dash in 22.32 while beating out a quartet of Division I runners during a sixth-place showing in the 60-meter dash, which he finished in 7.16. This weekend, some of Wheaton's athletes will participate in the All New England Championship on Friday and Saturday at Boston University. This page is maintained by Scott Dietz.
