Men break school record and women post NCAA qualifying performances at Boston University

BOSTON, MA- The Wheaton College men's and women's indoor track and field teams excelled at this weekend's Boston University meets held in the Track and Tennis Center. The men shattered a school record in the distance medley relay at the Boston University Invitational, while the women posted a pair of NCAA Division III national meet provisional qualifying performances at the Terrier Classic.

The men's distance medley relay team, consisting of juniors Ajay Sisodia (Andover, MA/Andover) and Ross Kahill (South Portland, ME/South Portland) and freshmen Pat Benson (Foxboro, MA/Bishop Feehan) and Alex Cook (Hanover, MA/Hanover), ran nearly five seconds faster than the previous mark with a time of 10:36.74.

In addition to the relay, Sisodia made his mark in the 200-meter dash with a third-place finish and time of 22.07. He also competed in the 55-meter dash in 6.77. Senior Jamaal Rawls-Payton (Stoughton, MA/Stoughton) placed 16th in the 200M dash in 24.21 and 20th in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.25.

Kahill took 16th overall in the 800-meter run in 2:07.82, while senior Patrick Freytag (Pittsford, NY/McQuaid Jesuit) was on his heels with a 17th-place mark and time of 2:08.29.

On the women's side, senior Kathrine Wallace (Glenmoore, PA/The Hill School) and junior Noelle Battista (Warwick, RI/Toll Gate) highlighted the meet with a pair of national meet provisional qualifying standards in the high jump and pole vault, respectively. Wallace captured third place with a jump of 5' 5 3/4", while Battista vaulted her way to a runner-up finish and height of 11'.

Sophomore Jennifer Harlow (East Bridgewater, MA/East Bridgewater) turned in a solid all-around showing on the weekend, placing fourth in the high jump after clearing 5' 3 3/4" and 12th in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.90. Freshman transfer Julie McLane (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) placed 17th in the 55M hurdles in her first meet as a member of the Wheaton program.

Freshman Joell Whitley (Magnolia, NJ/Triton Regional) had an impressive weekend in the field events, finishing sixth in the triple jump with a distance of 36' 2 1/4" and eighth in the long jump at 17' 5 1/4". In the high jump, sophomore Crystal Blamy (Walpole, NH/Fall Mountain Regional) placed ninth with a mark of 5' 1 3/4", while first-year Marie Swieta (West Monroe, NY/Altmar-Parish-Williamstown) finished 11th overall with the same height.

Wheaton will next travel to New York City to compete in the Armory Invitational on Friday, February 4 and Saturday, February 5.
