Evelyn Danzig Haas Athletic Center has three major components. The Beard Field House features a six-lane, Mondo Super-X track; an area that can be set up as tennis, volleyball or basketball courts; an archery/golf range; and indoor practice space for soccer, lacrosse and other sports. The Balfour Natatorium houses an eight-lane, 25-meter pool with movable bulkhead, suitable for intercollegiate swimming and diving competition. The Emerson Gymnasium contains a full-length intercollegiate basketball and volleyball court and two overlaid recreational length courts running side by side. The athletic treatment room in the Haas Center is staffed by two full-time trainers who specialize in injury prevention and rehabilitation programs.

The Thomas A. Pappas Fitness Center. Located in Wheaton's Balfour-Hood Student Center, the fitness center features a Nautilus circuit, StairMasters, Lifecycles, treadmills and rowing machines as well as a special area for working out with free weights. The Center also provides a sauna, jacuzzi and locker rooms. A full program of aerobics classes is held daily in the Ellison Dance Studio.

Other Options. Wheaton students also may take advantage of lighted and newly resurfaced outdoor tennis courts; an archery range; a Project Adventure ropes course; a softball diamond, baseball stadium and acres of fields for soccer, lacrosse and field hockey.

Wheaton fields ten NCAA Division III intercollegiate teams for women: cross-country, basketball, soccer, field hockey, volleyball, lacrosse, softball, tennis, track, swimming and syncrhonized swimming. There are currently seven teams for men: cross-country, soccer, lacrosse, basketball, tennis, track and swimming.

Intramural activities are organized in flag football, floor hockey, volleyball, softball, soccer, basketball, water polo, pool and ping-pong. Recreational opportunities abound with a full schedule of aerobic classes and the availability of the Fitness Center, swimming pool, and platform tennis courts.

The instructional program in athletics includes golf, swimming, tennis, badminton, archery, fencing, an exciting leadership program--Project Adventure--and karate.
