Rawson leads Lyon women as Wheaton teams compete at Franklin ParkOctober 6, 2007 BOSTON, MA- The Wheaton College men's and women's cross country teams competed at the All New England Championship on Saturday, as regional squads from across the NCAA's three divisions converged on Franklin Park. The Lyon women were 27th, while Wheaton's men were 43rd. As one of 44 teams, Wheaton's women narrowly placed behind a pair of Division I schools and collected 698 points, one fewer than the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and nine shy of Dartmouth College. The Lyons were two points ahead of Wesleyan University. Quinnipiac University won with 72 points. In the 43-team men's race, the Blue and White collected 1,307 points, placing 32 behind Division II Saint Michael's College. Brown University won with 95 points. Junior Amanda Rawson (Dudley, MA/Shepherd Hill Regional) paced Wheaton's women during the 5,000-meter race with a 65th-place finish in a time of 19:35. Classmate Lauren Reddy (Walnut Creek, CA/Carondelet) was next in 20:07, while freshman Ekaterina Gould (Wayland, MA/Wayland) and sophomore Katie Pratt (Litchfield, CT/Litchfield) recorded times of 20:35 and 20:36, respectively. For the third time in as many races he has run, freshman Nick Kacher (Waltham, MA/Waltham) led the Lyons, this time with a 29:53 showing over the 8,000-meter course. Classmates Colin Fahey (Waltham, MA/Weston) and Brandon Waltz (South Thomaston, ME/Rockland District) were the next two Wheaton finishers, giving the Lyons a freshman top three for the third time in four races. Wheaton's teams return to Franklin Park this coming Friday for the Saints Invitational.
