Brousseaus top Wheaton finishers as Lyons compete at UMass-Dartmouth

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA- Siblings Matt Brousseau (Attleboro, MA/Attleboro) and Megan Brousseau (Attleboro, MA/Attleboro) were the top finishers for the Wheaton College men's and women's cross country teams, respectively, as the Lyons participated on Saturday at the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth Invitational.

Wheaton's women racked up 264 points in placing 11th out of 29 teams, as the Blue and White fell just six points shy of 10th-place Springfield College. The Lyon men recorded 575 points to come in 18th out of 31 teams. The Amherst College women won with 42 points, while Trinity College took the men's race with 55 points.

In her first race since competing at the 2006 NCAA Championship, senior captain Megan Brousseau placed 12th out of 222 runners during the 5,000-meter run in a time of 18:50, which was two seconds shy of the top 10. Juniors Amanda Rawson (Dudley, MA/Shepherd Hill Regional) and Lauren Reddy (Walnut Creek, CA/Carondelet) were next for the Lyons, as Rawson was 27th in 19:12, and Reddy came in 29th at 19:14. Sophomore Katie Pratt (Litchfield, CT/Litchfield) was also in the upper half in 20:16.

On the men's side, freshman Matt Brousseau completed his first collegiate race in a time of 26:52, good for 64th among 225 runners. Freshman Natan Levy (Fort Lauderdale, FL/Pine Crest School), junior captain Scott Hafferkamp (Merrimack, NH/Merrimack) and freshman Brandon Waltz (South Thomaston, ME/Rockland District) finished the five-mile run within three seconds of one another in 28:34, 28:35 and 28:37, respectively.

Wheaton's teams take next weekend off before returning to action on Saturday, September 29 at the Keene State College Invitational.
