Wheaton teams compete at Franklin Park's All New England Championship

BOSTON, MA- The Wheaton College men's and women's cross country teams wrapped up back-to-back weekend competitions at the All New England Championship Saturday at Franklin Park, as the Lyon women finished 35th of 46 teams and the men placed 39th of 45 squads. The University of Massachusetts at Lowell men and the Boston University women won the overall titles.

Sophomore Lily Calderwood (Harvard, MA/Bromfield School) and senior captain Jennifer Ziello (Litchfield, CT/Litchfield) led the Wheaton women over the 5,000-meter course with 154th- and 158th-place finishes, respectively, as the tandem was a mere two seconds apart. Junior Abbe Bosk (Narberth, PA/Springside) and freshman Katie Pratt (Litchfield, CT/Litchfield) came within seven seconds of each other, while sophomore Amanda Rawson (Dudley, MA/Shepherd Hill Regional) and first-year athlete Katrina Hegeman (Dighton, MA/Dighton-Rehoboth Regional) rounded out the women's varsity competitors.

On the men's side, junior Pat Benson (Foxboro, MA/Bishop Feehan) paced the Lyon squad on the 8,000-meter course by finishing 135th overall and was followed by senior captain Matt Peirce (Lincoln, MA/Lincoln-Sudbury Regional). Sophomore David Ng'ang'a (Subukia, Kenya/United World College of South East Asia) and freshmen Andrew Brunhofer (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) and Miles Souza (Norton, MA/Saint Sebastian's School) all finished within seven seconds of another, while sophomore Dan Libon (Foxboro, MA/Foxboro) completed the men's varsity contingent.

Wheaton takes the next two weekends off from competitions, as the Lyons will next gear up for the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships on Saturday, October 28, at Mount Holyoke College.
