Women's cross country places ninth at UMass-Dartmouth Invitational

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA- Juniors Pat Benson (Foxboro, MA/Bishop Feehan) and Megan Brousseau (Attleboro, MA/Attleboro) were the top finishers for the Wheaton College men's and women's cross country teams, respectively, for the second straight week as the Lyons competed at the 34th annual University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday. Wheaton's women placed ninth out of 33 teams with 280 points in a field that was paced by Amherst College and its 32 points. The Lyon men were 16th out of 29 with 500 points, and Trinity College picked up the team title with 62 points.

Brousseau finished 17th out of 229 finishers in a time of 19:07, while Wheaton's next five runners were each within 10 places and 20 seconds of one another. Sophomore Amanda Rawson (Dudley, MA/Shepherd Hill Regional) cut 3:03 off her time from last week during a 20:18 finish, junior Abbe Bosk (Narberth, PA/Springside) finished in 20:21, senior captain Jennifer Ziello (Litchfield, CT/Litchfield) ran a time of 20:23, sophomore Lily Calderwood (Harvard, MA/Bromfield School) was next at 20:30, and freshman Katie Pratt (Litchfield, CT/Litchfield) completed the course in 20:38.

Benson completed the 196-finisher men's race at 23rd in a time of 26:28, while junior Joe Fowler (Farmington, ME/Mount Blue) was the next Wheaton runner to finish, clocking in at 28:53. Senior captain Matt Peirce (Lincoln, MA/Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) finished in 29:21, sophomores Scott Hafferkamp (Merrimack, NH/Merrimack) and Dan Libon (Foxboro, MA/Foxboro) were within one placement of each other at 30:10 and 30:12, respectively, while freshman Andrew Brunhofer (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) notched a time of 30:26.

Wheaton takes next week off before traveling to the Keene State College Invitational on Saturday, September 30 in Keene, New Hampshire.
