Women finish 11th, men 26th at NCAA New England Championship

SPRINGFIELD, MA- The Wheaton College men's and women's cross country teams wrapped up their 2005 seasons Saturday afternoon at the NCAA Division III New England Championship meet, with the women finishing 11th and the men 26th at Veterans Golf Course. Hosted by Springfield College, the Wheaton women totaled 304 points and the men 800. The Tufts University men and Williams College women captured their respective team titles.

Sophomore All-America runner Megan Brousseau (Attleboro, MA/Attleboro) paced the women with a 26th-place finish, covering the 6,000-meter course with a time of 22:53. Senior captain Kendra Leith (Holden, MA/Wachusett Regional) was Wheaton's second runner to cross the finish line with a 42nd-place result and time of 23:17.

Four newcomers to the team complemented Brousseau and Leith, as freshmen Amanda Rawson (Dudley, MA/Shepherd Hill Regional), Lily Calderwood (Harvard, MA/Bromfield School) and Megan O'Sadnick (Evergreen, CO/Evergreen), and sophomore Abbe Bosk (Narberth, PA/Springside) were 62nd, 76th, 101st and 107th, respectively. Junior Jennifer Ziello (Litchfield, CT/Litchfield) completed Wheaton's corps of seven runners with a 110th-place standing against nearly 300 finishers.

Sophomore Pat Benson (Foxboro, MA/Bishop Feehan) and junior Matt Peirce (Lincoln, MA/Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) paced the men's attack for the second consecutive meet, finishing 96th and 119th overall, respectively, with times of 27:26 and 28:00.

Senior Ben Haber (Lincoln, MA/Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) was the third Wheaton male runner to cover the five-mile course, while freshmen Scott Clark (East Longmeadow, MA/East Longmeadow), Scott Hafferkamp (Merrimack, NH/Merrimack) and Dan Libon (Foxboro, MA/Foxboro) were a mere two seconds apart from each another. Senior captain Eric Richardson (East Walpole, MA/Bishop Feehan) was on the heels of the first-year trio to round out the Lyon men.
