Lyons compete at Harrier Classic, women place fourth overall

BOSTON, MA- The Wheaton College women's cross country team finished fourth out of 11 teams at the Harrier Classic on Saturday, while the men placed ninth at the Franklin Park course. The women scored 129 points and the men tallied 225 during the race. The Greater Boston Track Club took home a win on the women's side with 59 points and the Boston Athletic Association men recorded 25 points en route to victory.

Wheaton's women finished behind only the Greater Boston Track Club, Division I University of Memphis and New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) counterpart Smith College. Senior captain Kendra Leith (Holden, MA/Wachusett Regional) paced the Lyons with a sixth-place finish in a time of 19:08 and was one of just 19 competitors to break the 20-minute mark. Freshman Amanda Rawson (Dudley, MA/Shepherd Hill Regional) came in 24th at 20:09, while classmate Megan O'Sadnick (Evergreen, CO/Evergreen) finished 32nd in her first collegiate race in a time of 20:15.

Four more Lyons rounded out Wheaton's contingent of runners, as freshman Lily Calderwood (Harvard, MA/Bromfield School) finished 36th, sophomore Abbe Bosk (Narberth, PA/Springside) was 40th, senior Jennifer Ziello (Litchfield, CT/Litchfield) placed 54th and freshman Lauren Reddy (Walnut Creek, CA/Carondelet) came in 61st.

Junior Matt Peirce (Lincoln, MA/Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) was Wheaton's top finisher in the men's race, coming in 26th with a time of 27:38. Senior Ben Haber (Lincoln, MA/Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) also broke the 30-minute mark by finishing 57th in a time of 29:17. Freshmen Scott Hafferkamp (Merrimack, NH/Merrimack), Scott Clark (East Longmeadow, MA/East Longmeadow), Blair Rossetti (Plymouth, MA/Plymouth North) and Dan Libon (Foxboro, MA/Foxboro) placed 68th, 76th, 80th and 83rd, respectively.

Both of Wheaton's cross country teams return to action next Saturday at the Keene State College Invitational. The women start at 11:00 a.m. and will be followed by the men's race.
