Spence tabbed NEWMAC Women's Runner of the Week

September 29, 2003

NORTON, MA- Wheaton College women's cross country standout Kim Spence (Barrington, NH/Dover) was tabbed New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Runner of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, September 28.

Competing in only her second collegiate cross country race, Spence made the most of her opportunity by leading Wheaton to the collegiate team title at Saturday's Harrier Classic held at Boston's Franklin Park. Spence finished fourth overall among 155 runners and covered the 5,000-meter course with a time of 19:02, which was just over a second faster than her next closest competitor. She was one of three Wheaton runners to finish in the top 12. The Lyons' 74 points ranked them ahead of NEWMAC schools MIT, Springfield, Smith and Mount Holyoke.

Spence and the Wheaton women will take this weekend off from competition, as the Lyons return to action on Saturday, October 11 at 11:00 a.m. Wheaton will compete at the James Earley Invitational hosted by Westfield State College in Westfield, Massachusetts.
