Wheaton places second overall at sixth annual cross country relays

NORTON, MA- The Wheaton College men's and women's cross country teams hosted the sixth annual relays Saturday morning behind the Haas Athletic Center, as a total of three institutions were represented. In addition to Wheaton, Brandeis University and Lasell College all competed in the eight-mile course.

For the second straight year, the relays consisted of four-member teams, including two male and two female runners. The women ran in the first and third positions, while the men were second and fourth. Each runner completed a two-mile loop for a total of eight miles.

Wheaton and Brandeis captured the first six spots of the competition, with the relay team from Brandeis posting top honors in a time of 45:32. The Judges finished first, third and fifth overall, while the host Lyons took second, fourth and sixth. Wheaton's second place squad completed the course in a time of 45:46, missing the top mark by 14 seconds. Lasell's two relay teams and Brandeis' remaining three squads rounded out the bottom five finishes.

Running for Brandeis' winning foursome was senior Samantha Miller (Bethlehem, PA/Moravian Academy), juniors Dan Crespin (Scotia, NY/Burnt Hill) and Gretchen Chick (Gardiner, ME/Gardiner Area) and sophomore Ryan Parker (Harvard, MA/Bromfield).

Wheaton's top foursome consisted of seniors Brian Donoghue (Holyoke, MA/Holyoke Catholic) and Kim Spence (Barrington, NH/Dover), junior Joe Chadwick (Shelburne Falls, MA/Mohawk Trail Regional) and first-year Jonatta Moore (Staten Island, NY/Curtis).
