Wheaton men's and women's cross country teams finish season at NCAA Division III New England ChampionshipsNovember 16, 2002 WESTFIELD, MA- The Wheaton College men's and women's cross country teams finished their seasons Saturday afternoon at the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championships held at Stanley Park in Westfield. The women placed 20th overall among the 38 competing teams with 514 points, while the men placed 25th in the 35-team pool with 691 points. Keene State captured the men's title, while Williams finished first on the women's side. All-New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) selection Erin O'Brien (North Easton, MA/Oliver Ames) was the frontrunner for the women, placing 68th overall at the 6K course with a time of 23:32. After O'Brien, the Lyons had four runners finish within 24 seconds of each other, led by sophomore Lindsay Whalen (Dedham, MA/Dedham) in 24 minutes flat. Freshman Christina Langevin (Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug Regional) posted a solid performance, covering the course in 24:10. Following Langevin was classmate Kendra Leith (Holden, MA/Wachusett Regional) and sophomore Lindsey Degon (Palmer, MA/Palmer). Junior Brannin Buehner (Lubec, ME/Lubec) highlighted the meet for the men, covering the five-mile course with a time of 27:03. Sophomore Joe Chadwick (Shelburne Falls, MA/Mohawk Trail Regional) and freshman Eric Richardson (E. Walpole, MA/Bishop Feehan) were Wheaton's second and third runners to cross the finish line with times of 27:28 and 27:49, respectively. Rounding out the scoring for the Lyons was junior Terry Panetta (Hicksville, NY/St. Anthony's) and first-year Ross Kahill (South Portland, ME/South Portland), as the pair ran side by side with finishes of 28:50 and 28:51, respectively.
