Wheaton cross country teams compete at DeSales Invitational; Women finish ninth overall, men post a 16th-place standing

DESALES, PA- The Wheaton College men's and women's cross country team competed at the DeSales University Invitational Saturday afternoon. The women finished with a commendable ninth-place finish among the 38 competing teams, while the men turned in a 16th-place finish in the 40-team field. Dickinson College earned the team title on the women's side, while Millersville University captured team honors for the men.

Sophomore Erin O'Brien (North Easton, MA/Oliver Ames) paced the women with a top 25 finish, covering the 5,000-meter course in a time of 20:02. Sophomores Lindsey Degon (Palmer, MA/Palmer) and Lindsay Whalen (Dedham, MA/Dedham) were 52nd and 56th, respectively, while first-year Christina Langevin (Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug Regional) and sophomore Emily Doenges (Milford, CT/Saint Joseph) rounded out the scoring for the Lyons.

Juniors Terry Panetta (Hicksville, NY/St. Anthony's) and Brannin Buehner (Lubec, ME/Lubec) were the top two Wheaton men to cross the finish line on the 8K course, as Panetta placed 47th overall in 27:32 and Buehner 69th in 28:06. First-year Ross Kahill (South Portland, ME/South Portland) was 79th in 28:20, while sophomore Joe Chadwick (Shelburne Falls, MA/Mohawk Trail Regional) and freshman Eric Richardson (E. Walpole, MA/Bishop Feehan) rounded out Wheaton's top five runners.
