Wheaton men finish as runner-up at Stonehill College Dana Boardman Invitational; women post a sixth-place finish

EASTON, MA- The Wheaton College men's cross country team turned in a solid performance at the 2002 Dana Boardman Invitational Saturday morning at Stonehill College, as the Lyons placed second overall in the nine-team field. On the women's side, Wheaton posted a sixth-place finish among the nine competing teams. Stonehill's men's and women's programs captured the team championships.

The Lyon men totaled an impressive 65 points among seven Division II programs, while the women finished with 145 points, just one point shy of conference rival Wellesley. Junior Brannin Buehner (Lubec, ME/Lubec) and sophomore Erin O'Brien (North Easton, MA/Oliver Ames) captured All-Invitational honors with a pair of top ten finishes.

Buehner covered the 8,000-meter course in a time of 28:24, leading the fleet of five Wheaton runners finishing among the top 20 places overall. Juniors Terry Panetta (Hicksville, NY/St. Anthony's) and Brian Donoghue (Holyoke, MA/Holyoke Catholic) finished 14th and 16th with times of 29:02 and 29:26, respectively.

Rounding out the top five finishers on the men's side was sophomore Joe Chadwick (Shelburne Falls, MA/Mohawk Trail Regional) and first-year Ross Kahill (South Portland, ME/South Portland). Placing 17th overall, Chadwick posted a time of 29:34, while Kahill's 19th place mark stood in a time of 29:46.

For the women, O'Brien covered the 5,000 meter race in a time of 19:39. Sophomore Lindsay Whalen (Dedham, MA/Dedham) was the only other Wheaton athlete to place in the top 20, finishing 20th overall in a time of 20:33. First-year Christina Langevin (Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug Regional) and sophomore Emily Doenges (Milford, CT/Saint Joseph) placed 33rd and 39th with times of 21:17 and 21:31, respectively.
