Pyle and Wheaton finish second at James Earley Invitational; O'Brien places ninth and paces women to third place standing

WESTFIELD, MA- Sophomore Stan Pyle (S. Portland, ME/S. Portland) continued to pave the way for the Wheaton College men‚s cross country team by placing second overall at the James Earley Invitational in Westfield. The Lyons finished second among the 23 scoring teams.

Vassar won the team title by placing its five runners in the top 20 to capture the meet with 57 points. Wheaton posted 83 points, while Trinity (125), Eastern Connecticut State (134) and conference school Coast Guard (185) rounded out the top five.

Pyle was 15 seconds off the winning pace, as he finished the five-mile course in 26:13. Senior Noah Hill (Templeton, MA/Narragansett Regional) and sophomore Brian Donoghue (Holyoke, MA/Holyoke Catholic) went in order for the second consecutive week. Hill reached fifth for his highest placement this season in 26:56, while Donoghue finished 25th in 28:14.

Freshman Erin O'Brien (Easton, MA/Oliver Ames) hit a personal best on the 5,000-meter run with a time of 19:20. O‚Brien finished ninth overall, helping leading the Lyons to a third place standing overall among 26 scoring teams. Trinity captured the team title with 40 points, followed by Coast Guard‚s 108 points. Wheaton had 127 points, while Roger Williams (132) and Wellesley (168) placed fourth and fifth, respectively.

The Lyons had two additional runners round out the top 30 placements, including freshman Jen Walter (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury) and first-year Lindsay Whalen (Dedham, MA/Dedham). Walter finished 12th in 19:37, while Whalen was 30th in 20:27.
