Pyle crowned champion at Bryant Invitational; O'Brien leads women to second place finish

SMITHFIELD, RI- Sophomore Stan Pyle (S. Portland, ME/S. Portland) earned the top finish at today‚s 20th annual Bryant Cross Country Invitational, leading Wheaton to a fourth place standing in the nine-team pool, which featured several Division II squads.
The men‚s race saw Merrimack place all five of its scorers in the top 15 to come away with the team title with 46 points. Stonehill and Bentley tied for second with 72, while Wheaton (91) and Bryant (119) completed the top five.
Pyle was victorious by eight seconds, finishing the 8,000-meter race in 28:02. Senior Noah Hill (Templeton, MA/Narragansett Regional) and sophomore Brian Donoghue (Holyoke, MA/Holyoke Catholic) placed in the top 15 runners at 12th and 18th, respectively.
On the women‚s side, first-year Erin O'Brien (Easton, MA/Oliver Ames) placed second overall to help the Lyons finish second as a team for the second time this season. Stonehill, ranked No. 16 in Division II, placed all five of its scorers in the top 10 to win the women‚s meet with 27 points. Wheaton was second with 68, followed by Assumption (74), Saint Anselm (82) and Merrimack (156) to round out the top five.
The Lyons placed five runners in the top 22, led by O‚Brien‚s time of 20:26 at the 5,000-meter run. Rounding out Wheaton‚s top runners was classmate Jen Walter (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury) in seventh, freshman Lindsay Whalen (Dedham, MA/Dedham) in 17th, sophomore Nancy Nally (S. Portland, ME/S. Portland) in 20th and sophomore Jessica Jordan (Cape Elizabeth, ME/Cape Elizabeth) in 22nd.
