First-year O'Brien leads cross country women at 34th Annual Codfish BowlSeptember 22, 2001 Freshman Erin O'Brien (Easton, MA/Oliver Ames H.S.) paved the way for the Wheaton College women's cross country team Saturday afternoon at the 34th annual Codfish Bowl, leading the Lyons to an 11th-place team finish in the 19-squad field. Amherst picked up the team crown with 76 total points at the Franklin Park course. Following O'Brien's 5,000-meter race time of 19:23, which bettered her first collegiate meet by 35 seconds, was classmate Lindsay Whalen (Dedham, MA/Dedham H.S.). Whalen finished 49th overall with a time of 20:25. Also placing among the top five finishers for the Lyons was first-year Linsey Degan (Palmer, MA/Palmer H.S.), who placed 66th overall, freshman Jen Walter (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury H.S.) in the 69th spot and senior captain Danielle Huston (Plymouth, MA/Plymouth North H.S.) rounding out the scoring at the 83rd position.
