Born in nearby Rehoboth in 1816, Benjamin prepared for his career by attending Bristol Academy in Taunton, studying theology for two years with the Rev. Dr. Cobb of Taunton, and then medicine with Dr. Swan of Easton and Dr. Randall of Rehoboth, as well as attending medical lectures at Harvard in 1841-42. Licensed to practice in 1843, he came to Norton as an allopathic physician, but in 1844, changed to a homeopathic practice.  After his first wife’s death, in 1849 he married Sophia Morey of Taunton, grand-daughter of Dr. Samuel Morey and cousin of Laban Morey Wheaton. In 1872, Benjamin Round was 55 and had four children.
