Abroad Experience: Auckland via Christchurch

Posted on May 12, 2011

Lindsey Cobb '12 began her study abroad experience in the Spring 2011 at the University of Canterbury in Chirstchurch, NZ.

After the 6.3 earthquake that deeply impacted Chirstchurch in  February 22nd 2011, Lindsey moved to complete her studies at the University of Auckland.

Speaking about her abroad experience Lindsey said: "Moving from Christchurch was bittersweet.. I felt extremely lucky that I was alive and unharmed and I was excited to see what Auckland was like." Lindsey was sad to leave Christchurch because she "wished she could have stayed to help clean up the city with the University of Canterbury Student Army."

Despite the stresses of the sudden transition,  greatly enjoyed her  Maori Studies class called Kapa Haka, a class taught by a Maori family that performs in the National Kapa Haka Championships. In this class Lindsey is learning traditional Maori songs, dances and her class will partake in a public performance at the end of the semester.
