Summer 2010 Literary Fellows
Current Sophomores and Juniors are invited to apply for funding to support summer opportunities in literary-related settings, such as magazines, journals, publishing houses or as participants in summer creative writing and literary workshops. You can seek experiences in both domestic and overseas settings.

The Summer Literary Fellows committee will select student(s) for this stipend, and award at least $3000 in funding. There may be the opportunity for supplemental funding, should your location be especially remote or overseas.

Deadline for application is the 12:30 p.m. on March 12, 2010.  This means finding a site, obtaining your supervisor's confirmation of your participation and writing a winning proposal.  It is suggested you make plans to meet during the fall semester with a Filene Center Advisor to start the process of looking for an internship.  Summer may seem far away; however, internships of this type take time to research, cultivate and secure.

CLEVELAND OHIO SUMMER FELLOWS - OPEN TO CLASSES 2010, 2011 AND 2012

Wheaton College is pleased to announce the opportunity for internships in Cleveland, Ohio for summer 2010.

Make Cleveland Rock For You!

So what’s this internship opportunity all about? The Porter Cleveland Internship is a little different from most non-profit internship opportunities being offered by Wheaton for Summer 2010. The award amount will be $3500 plus free housing at Case Western Reserve University.

It’s a cool way for you to get experience with an organization that is working hard to make Cleveland a better place. To being thinking about this opportunity, students in the classes of 2010, 2011 and 2012 must call the Filene Center for Academic Advising and Career Services to make an appointment to begin the process.  The campus extension to do this is: 8215. Only students working with a Filene Center Advisor will be approved for this opportunity.

Please do not be deterred by the fact that it is only November.   To research, cultivate and secure a site in Cleveland you will need to begin working with an advisor before Thanksgiving break.

Timeline

  • October/November – Begin working with a Filene Center Career Services Advisor.
  • December/January – research, locate and secure a site.
  • Early March – Prepare for interviews: via phone and email.
  • Late March - Decisions are made
  • April – Make preparation for your summer experience.
  • June/August – Eleven-week job experience for interns takes place.
  • End of August – reflect on your experience and the new skill you acquired.  Report back to Wheaton of your progress via a reflection essay and community events.

In recent years students have interned at:

  • Legal Society of Cleveland
  • Center for Families & Children
  • Cleveland Clinic
  • Cleveland Orchestra
  • Center for Community Solutions
  • Mandell School for Applied Social Sciences @ Case Western Reserve University.
