Russian 101: RuSSiaN FolkLOre

Russian Folk Costume Project

This is Olga.
Olga bids you welcome to the
RUSSIAN FOLK COSTUME PROJECT page, showcasing Russian folk costumes built and sewn by Wheaton students taking our Russian 101 course, Russian Folklore.

Olga herself was attired by one of our groups, Kristan Charest, Heidi Holzfaster, Robin Shea and Heather Hanson, with some help from grandma. She is wearing the simplest and most essential peasant costume, a long shirt worn over a shift of white cotton broadcloth, both embroidered with red accents on the sleeves and bottom, and a red platok (scarf).

Irina Komarova helped sew the costumes, Ryan Drake built wooden shapes to hang the costumes, and Katya Nute and the Russian Club bought much of the cloth and material.
