RUSSiAN FOLKLORE, spring 2010

 

Russian Folklore or RUSS101 is an introductory course on Russian culture.
NO Russian language is required or expected. The course is conducted entirely in English, and all materials are available in English.

Russian Folklore and the curriculum:
In the Wheaton curriculum, Russian Folklore counts as an Arts and Humanities course.
It is part of CONNECTION 20051 with Hist 215, Russian History.

Russian Folklore will include the following topics: Pagan Russia and Medieval Russia -- Russian Fairy Tales --The Russian Folk Epic Tale -- Rituals, Spells, Calendars, and Holidays --Proverbs -- the Artists at Abramtsevo -- Russian Folklore in Music and Art -- Russian Folk Costumes, and Folk Art and Crafts.
