As part of a research project for Professor Searles’ World Music class, Wheaton female songwriters will take the stage for an afternoon of music. Each songwriter makes their artistic voice heard by performing several of their original songs. In showcasing their lyrical and musical talents, these current students embody the concept of the female songwriter through two central themes. The performers have diverse, intensely personal styles that demonstrate the theme of individuality. Simultaneously, the performers demonstrate the theme of community by interacting with each other, proving that female songwriters gain strength from one another. By sharing the music and lyrics they’ve created with current, former, and future members of the Wheaton community, the performers present a positive portrayal of the female songwriter on the concentrated scale of Wheaton College.
