The 2007 Honor Code Survey
This semester the Honor Code Commission re-administered the Honor Code Survey last conducted during spring semester 2004. The Commission's intent in administering the survey was to promote the Honor Code, gain a better understanding of its effectiveness and engage the Wheaton community in ongoing discussions and activities related to academic and social integrity.
The last time the survey was conducted, faculty agreed to distribute the survey in their classes and provide time for students to complete and return it to them. This year the Commission decided that administering the survey electronically would be most effective.
Students were sent an email message announcing the survey and requesting their participation, with a direct web link to the survey.
The survey was made available to students from March 19 - March 30, 2007.
Wheaton faculty and staff were asked for their assistance in promoting the survey in classes, offices and meetings in an effort to secure a good response rate and a representative sample.
Student participation in the survey was impressive. A total 734 students voluntarily completed the survey, which represents 47% of the Wheaton student population.
In early April survey results were displayed in graph form on easels throughout campus and all members of the Wheaton community were invited to an Honor Code "Speak Out" on April 19, when survey results were presented and discussed by a student-faculty-staff panel and those in attendance.
Survey results are now available on the Wheaton web site and will continue to be shared with the Wheaton community and utilized to initiate on-going discussions and related activities in the coming academic year.
