Faculty Services

Liaison Support for Teaching and Learning

Your librarian or technologist liaison is your starting point for LIS curriculum support. Here are some ways we can help you.

Each First-Year Seminar includes a library research component, and is assigned a liaison librarian who works with you to accomplish foundational research goals.

Please contact Margaret Gardner (x3705) or Scott Hamlin (x3767) with any questions about our liaison program.

Electronic Classrooms & Collaborative Student Spaces

The Library maintains two electronic classrooms which are primarily used to support the Library's instruction program. When not in session, they are used as student computer labs. Faculty may reserve these classrooms for one-time class sessions when hands-on computing or computer demonstrations are required. To schedule a classroom, contact your liaison librarian no more than 7 days in advance.

The Library also maintains four technology-equipped collaboration rooms. Please encourage your students to take advantage of them for group, collaborative work by reserving the spaces through the Circulation Desk (x8224).

Library Collections & Requests

Faculty partner with Library staff to develop our Library collections that directly support the undergraduate curriculum. To suggest a purchase, please use our online form or contact Gloria Barker (x3723). For questions regarding periodical subscriptions, please contact Jean Callaghan (x3715).

Placing Items on Reserve

You can place book, article, and audio material on physical or electronic reserve by completing the Reserve Reading List Form. To place a video on reserve, please complete the Video Request Form.

Circulation staff (x8224) can assist you with placing items on reserve. Please cooperate by complying with our submission deadlines, communicated via email to all faculty.

Please consult our Reserve Procedures and Policies.

Borrowing Library Materials at Wheaton, via HELIN, and via ILL

Both Wheaton and HELIN material can be searched and requested through the HELIN Library Catalog, available on the Wallace Library Homepage.

Material not found at Wheaton or in HELIN can be requested via Interlibrary Loan (ILL). To search and request (non-article) material use WorldCat Local, also available on the Wallace Library Homepage. Requests for full-text articles not held or owned by Wheaton can often be requested either directly through the database or, if not, via the Article Request Form.

Ask any reference librarian for assistance (x3700). Read more about ILL Procedures and Policies.

Special Library Privileges for Research

HELIN Libraries

Faculty and students have year-round, on-site borrowing privileges and access to the print and electronic resources of HELIN academic member libraries simply by showing their Wheaton ID to the appropriate staff. Several health sciences libraries require appointments.

Please note:

Brown University allows Wheaton faculty, students, and staff on-site borrowing privileges and use of its libraries (effective Sept. 14, 2009). Show your Wheaton ID to the appropriate library personnel.(A Letter of Introduction to obtain an annually renewable library card is no longer necessary.) Certain restrictions do apply, including limited access to licensed databases, electronic resources, and reference services. For more information visit their web site.
