Faculty Guide to Program Funding

prepared by Alex Vasquez,
Associate Dean for Academic and Campus Life

Faculty have many resources to which they can turn for support in bringing speakers to class, running field trips, and otherwise enriching the learning experience of their students with additional resources and activities. While the student funding bodies listed below will not traditionally fund 100% of any request, they can provide significant help. Collaboration with students or student groups is normally beneficial to the application process. The student committees acting on requests meet on a weekly or biweekly basis; other groups may meet less regularly.

STUDENT-ADMINISTERED FUNDS

Accessing Speaker, Venture and Senate Funding Online:
Applications are available by accessing the Student Government Association (SGA) website http://sga.wheatoncollege.edu. At homepage, go to Student Government Association, Office of the Treasurer, and Applications. You may also access the SGA website from the Wheaton College homepage: http://www.wheatoncollege.edu/

Venture Fund:

The purpose of the Venture Fund is to "fund ventures which will improve and enhance the co-curricular life and awareness of the Wheaton community," as stated in the by-laws of the Student Government Association of Wheaton College. Venture Fund is administered by a committee, made up of students, and Student Life staff members.

Speaker Fund is administered by a committee made up of students in the Student Government Association.

Senate Funding

The purpose of the Senate Appropriations Committee is to "proactively address issues, policies, and needs that are not being sufficiently addressed... [and] to improve the conditions and quality of life of the Wheaton community as a whole," as stated in the Constitution of the Student Government Association of Wheaton College. Senate Funding is administered by the complete SGA Senate. The Senate meets on a weekly basis.

Tier Funding and Programming Council

The Educational Tier, Intercultural Tier, Programming Council, and the SGA-recognized groups they represent, provide much of the campus programming generated by students. This funding comes from the Student Activities Fee and is under the strict purview of students and SGA. Any requests for funding must include participation by individual students or student groups.
To request funding from the Programming Council, Educational or Intercultural Tier, you should contact the respective Chairperson. You can obtain the student's names by calling the Office of Student Life (Andrea Holden/ Shontae Praileau/Scott Rattigan, ext. 8222), contacting the SGA directly, or by referring to the Wheaton College Telephone Directory. The student's names and titles will be listed under STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION.
