Before calling Technology Support at 3900

Solving computer problems is a mixture of expertise, intuition, and experience. Technology Support staff ask a series of questions to help eliminate possibilities and identify the cause of the problem. By using a similar approach you may also be able to solve your problem before calling Technology Support at 3900. The following tips are provided as an aid to problem solving and to help you make best use of our services.

Troubleshooting Tips and Tricks

IFTHEN
You are experiencing computer problems1. Turn computer off, wait 10 seconds, restart.
2. Be sure connections/cables are secure and power is working.
3. You are having a password problem, be sure your Caps Lock function is not activated.
You need to call Technology Support at 39001. Let us know what your problem is or what it is you are trying to do.
2. Write down what you were doing when the problem occurred and any error messages you have received.
3. Let us know if you have recently changed any settings on your computer (i.e. display settings, font color changes, etc.), in the software application (i.e. font color, directory you save to, etc.), or if you have downloaded anything from the Internet or from someone else.
You think you may have a virus1. You should have virus software installed on your computer! Update your .dat files in VirusScan/Virex on a regular basis.
2. Run the virus scanning software. If it detects a virus it will ask you to delete the infected file. If you are not sure if you should do this please call Technology Support at 3900 for advice.
