Women's Track and Field Competes at NCAAs, Thompson Earns Two All-America Nods

The Wheaton College women's outdoor track and field team was the last of the school's squads to compete during the 2007-08 school year, as the Lyons tied for 38th out of 83 scoring teams at the NCAA Championship at the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh last weekend. The three-day meet ended on Saturday, when sophomore Renee Thompson (Hartford, CT/Weaver) earned a pair of All-America finishes, requiring a top-eight showing, including her first in an individual event. She placed eighth in the 400-meter dash before running the leadoff leg for the 4x400M relay, which came in third at 3:46.31 by shaving 3.55 seconds off its trials time. Juniors Chizoba Ezeigwe (Brockton, MA/Thayer Academy) and Natana Jules (Brooklyn, NY/Boys and Girls) and sophomore Kelly Libert (New Haven, CT/James Hillhouse) ran the additional three legs. Ezeigwe earned her seventh All-America accolade, Thompson upped her total to four with the pair on Saturday, Jules recorded her third, and Libert claimed her initial honor. The four eclipsed their best time this spring by 0.96 ticks.
