You and your advisor

Your relationship with your advisor will be helped if you follow a few suggestions.

  • Make a note of your advisor's office hours and try to schedule appointments during those times.
  • Advisors are especially busy near the deadline times for dropping, adding and withdrawing from courses and during Registration Week. During these times be sure to plan ahead by making an appointment with your advisor well in advance.
  • When you make an appointment, be sure to keep it or let your advisor know if you are unable to do so.
  • Recognize that good support and advice will come from many other resources who serve as part of your academic team, if you seek them out. These include the Preceptors, the pre-professional advisors listed in the Catalog, other faculty members, the Filene Center for Academic Advising and Career Service, the counseling services available through the Health Center, and the Library. It is up to you, however, to seek the support that these people and offices can offer, and it is the mark of a successful student to do so.
