Resources at the Filene Center
The Job Location and Development Program
The Job Location and Development Program (JLD) can help you to find off-campus part time jobs as well as summer job opportunities. JLD is administered through the Filene Center for Work and Learning (2nd floor of the Admissions building). To find jobs, you can access Wheaton's Job Opportunity Bank (WJOB), Wheaton's clearinghouse of off-campus and summer job opportunities, and/or meet with a Filene Center staff member who can assist you with your job search. To use the WJOB database, you should come to the Filene Center to register. The WJOB database includes local part time jobs in areas such as child care, retail, sales, office work, and many others. Jobs are updated throughout the year. Off- campus jobs do not count against your work-study award and often pay more than on-campus jobs. Students who hold on-campus work-study positions are therefore eligible to seek off-campus employment.
Summer jobs throughout the United States can also be found on the WJOB database and are updated continuously beginning in the late fall. Special spring term workshops and advising are provided for your summer job search needs.
Filene Center staff members are able to help you with resumes, cover letters, interviewing tips, and conducting a job search. Because off-campus jobs are often educationally meaningful, the Filene Center encourages you to document your work experience in your Work and Public Service Record, Wheaton's "Second Transcript." Limited transportation to off-campus jobs can be provided for students without cars. If interested, you should go to the Wheaton Wheels office, adjacent to the Filene Center, for more information.
