Department Administrative & Teaching Assistant √ Physics & Astronomy

Reports to: Professor of Physics
Description: The Department of Physics and Astronomy is seeking to fill the position of Department Assistant. The job functions include: assisting in introductory physics and astronomy courses as needed by the faculty, testing and setting up of equipment for courses, organizing the public open night observatory program, handling the inventory of supplies, and the storage, maintenance and repair of equipment. The position also entails running recitation sections for introductory physics course, assisting students with independent work and projects, and supervising student employees.
Requirements: The candidate should have a Bachelor's degree in Physics and/or Astronomy and some teaching experience. Must have good organizational and interpersonal skills, as well as a working knowledge of electronic and mechanical equipment used in a typical Physics & Astronomy Department. A desire to learn and do hands-on work is essential. A familiarity with material from physics and astronomy courses at the introductory level is required, as is a desire to teach these materials.
Salary: Administrative/Professional Grade 1
