Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician

Term: Part-time with benefits, 20 hours/week, 12 months

Reports to: Animal Facilities Supervisor

Description: The Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician will provide the necessary husbandry and environmental enrichment for common laboratory animals including rodents, fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and invertebrates under the guidance of the Animal Facility Supervisor.

This individual will assist with the care and maintenance of research and instructional animals, including safe animal restraint and handling, health care and environmental checks, cage cleaning, animal feeding and facilities maintenance. Some light veterinary care may occasionally be required.


Requirements:


- Previous experience working with rodents (rats & mice), reptiles and other laboratory animals
- Must possess excellent attention to detail and strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Must be able to work independently and as a member of a team
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to work holidays and weekends
- No or controlled allergies to animal dander and bedding
- Proof of recent tetanus vaccination
- Education/experience: High school diploma or GED required
- Licenses: AALAS certification or eligibility for certification desirable but not necessary
- Other: Degree in Animal Science or related science field preferred but not necessary

Salary: Office/Clerical Grade 2
