Course Description: Fundamentals of Nutrition and its application to daily life. The first part of the course deals with nutritents and metabolism, changing nutrient needs during the life cycle and nutrition as it relates to health and exercise. The second part presents an overview of social and behavioral influences on eating and health issues such as weight control, and eating disorders. Critical issues such as links between nutrition and heart disease, cancer, and the safety of chemical additives are discussed. Other topics include the influence of advertising on food choices and food cost and the world food supply. This course fulfills a natural science (NS) requirement. Prerequisite: Bio 101 or 111, or advanced placement in Biology.
