Ways to Get Involved
We’d like to extend our gratitude to the over 500 alumni volunteers who keep fellow graduates connected and engaged, enrich the experience for current students, and help shape the future of the college. As our Alumni Association grows with each graduating class, so too does our need for volunteers. There are a variety of meaningful ways to get involved and many require very little time commitment. Plus, we provide you with volunteer resources to help you easily connect with classmates and maximize your efforts. Admission Ambassadors inspire prospective students with their stories of “Why Wheaton?”
- Write postcards to admitted students in your area, welcoming them to Wheaton
- Be a representative at high school admissions fairs in your area (need is limited)
- Post a testimonial of your “Why Wheaton” story—share why you chose Wheaton and how it changed your life
Yearly time commitment: 1-2 hours
Join a dedicated group of volunteers who serve as an inclusive voice of and for Wheaton alumni
- Increase alumni participation in the college’s activities and fundraising efforts
- Serve as an active member of two board committees by attending meetings and participating in initiatives
- Attend key alumni programs and events and encourage participation in on-campus and regional Alumni Association programs
- Nominate candidates for our Alumni Achievement Awards
- Nominate candidates for our Alumni Board of Directors
- Support the college financially through an annual gift
Yearly time commitment: varies based on board position and committee
Support class officer positions with class communication and fundraising needs
- Help coordinate Reunion plans
- Garner philanthropic support
- Support and encourage classmates
Term: 5 years that run from Reunion to Reunion
Yearly time commitment: 5-10 hours
Class Officers are elected to serve as liaisons between the college and your graduating class. They communicate with classmates through various channels, stay in touch with Wheaton staff, make a gift to the Wheaton Fund, serve on the Reunion planning committee, and attend Leadership Weekend in the fall.
- Class President provides leadership, support and encouragement to the other officers and members of the class
- Calls and presides at all class and officer meetings
- Class Vice President serves as the Reunion Program Coordinator for class reunion
- Organizes and chairs a reunion committee leading up to a reunion year
- Class Secretary is the main correspondent between the class officers, the College, and members of the class
- Writes Class Notes section for Wheaton Magazine
- Notifies the college of any class members’ address change
- Takes notes at meetings
Term: 5 years that run from Reunion to Reunion
Yearly time commitment 5-10 hours
Organize networking and social events that reunite Wheaton alumni in your local area
- Serve as a primary liaison between the regional club and the college
- Share all club communications with the Alumni Relations Office
- Work with the staff to plan 1-4 club events or activities per year
- Complete required post-event duties and send to the Alumni Relations Office
Yearly time commitment: 2-5 hours
Engage with Wheaton’s social media platforms by liking, sharing, reposting and commenting on Wheaton College Alumni content
- Remember to use the hashtag #WheatonMAAlum
- Receive a monthly email with curated posts to share
- Encourage others to follow Wheaton College’s social media accounts
- Provide feedback on what the college is sharing
Yearly time commitment: 15 minutes a few times a week
Fundraising Volunteer Opportunities
Alumni volunteers play a pivotal role in engaging Wheaton graduates, parents and friends in various fundraising initiatives. Through our annual giving program, The Wheaton Fund, outreach efforts and philanthropy help enrich the student experience and support the college’s strategic goals and mission.
Donations have helped sustain and create new academic offerings, build state-of-the-art labs and facilities, provide scholarship and financial aid, add new athletic programs, and enhance student services.
