What's New @ the Music Department
The Great Woods Symphony is the college-community orchestra based at Wheaton College. The orchestra is comprised of about 60 members, which include Wheaton students, staff, and faculty as well members of the general public. Talented talented high school students are also welcome to join. Rehearsals are held Mondays, 7-9:15 pm, beginning Sept. 12.
World-renowned violinist and composer Daniel Bernard Roumain (DBR) opened up a year-long residency at Wheaton with a collaborative performance in the Kresge Experimental Theatre on October 1, 2015. Students enrolled in Prof. Case's course "Introduction to Songwriting" spent a Saturday in March working closely with renowned singer-songwriter Catie Curtis. Wheaton hosted a world premiere this week. The renowned ensemble The Hermitage Piano Trio visited campus to perform as part of the long-running Loser Concert Series with a program featuring works by famous composers, works that classical music ensembles have performed many times before.
