Visiting Professor of Computer Science [Apply here.]
The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Wheaton College in Massachusetts invites applications for a one year, full-time visiting faculty position in Computer Science beginning in the fall of 2014. Candidates should have a commitment to excellence in teaching; a Ph.D. or ABD in Computer Science is preferred, but an M.S. in Computer Science with experience will be considered. The successful candidate will teach a total of five courses and two labs during the academic year. At least one of the courses will be in the candidate's area of expertise.
It is an exciting time here for computing at Wheaton College, and we are looking for motivated applicants who seek experience teaching undergraduate computer science. We are a growing program with an increasingly diverse group of students: in 2014 we will graduate our largest class in Computer Science and our interdisciplinary Bioinformatics major -- over 40% of these majors are women. Our new makerspace is a thriving hub of activity, spreading the love of computing across the liberal arts and potential collaborations with faculty across campus (e.g., Studio Art, Film & New Media Studies). We welcome applicants with creative thinking about innovative models of delivering content. Our ongoing experimentation includes a dose of project-centered courses, blended learning by integrating MOOCs in our courses, and team teaching.
This position should be especially attractive to new graduates who seek experience and mentoring at an institution that values and supports teaching and scholarship.
Wheaton seeks educational excellence through diversity and strongly encourages applications from women and men from historically underrepresented groups. Wheaton College is an equal opportunity / affirmative action employer.
Applications received by March 7, 2014 will receive the fullest consideration. The position will remain open until filled.
