Professors, what made you study and eventually teach German?
Lee
: "I was exposed to German culture and literature from early on, growing up in Germany until I was 15. One of my favorite things to do was to stay in bed and read all day long. Then I discovered my love for teaching when I engaged in volunteer work with kids in urban communities."
Bohn: "Growing up as an American in Austria, I experienced the power and pleasure of living in a culture, and language, not of one’s own. At graduate school, I fell in love with the language teaching part of my program. I feel great excitement when students’ thinking expands beyond the limitations of translation."

Katharina, what do you hope to accomplish in your year here at Wheaton?
Katharina: "To get and keep in touch with beautiful classes, aspiring German students, being part of the Wheaton community and academics, getting to know the way of living, learning and teaching at an American college in the midst of New England, particularly to experience history from a new point of view. Add outdoors, Green Mountains and White Mountains, Acadia and Cape Cod Bay – this is what I hope to have the opportunity for to enjoy all this and accomplish in my year at Wheaton."
